FAQ-12 Why did you Ever Start to Study Hypnosis?
Today’s question is from Billy Cunningham of Huston, Texas. This is a question of me specifically and he says:
Why did you ever start to study hypnosis?
And I will give you the short story on that. I had been a financial advisor for 10 years, quite successful and I had moved into management and I was starting to teach others. And I became insatiably curious about anything that would help me, help people break through with the obstacles that they faced in their every day life or give them an edge to help them communication with their clients, more easily, more effectively or on a deeper level.
And I was always looking for things that I could model or teach and one of the things that I have been a big believer in for most of my adult life is, one of Napoleon Hills 17 guiding principles of ‘Think and Grow Rich’. In fact it is the number 2 ranked most important guiding principle. Number one is definitiveness of purpose. In other words having a vision and knowing where it is that you want to go. Number two is being involved in a mastermind group of like-minded people who are committed to excellence, just like you!
And I was in a mastermind group and we had a hypnotherapist there who described himself as the ‘therapist of last resort’! Pretty compelling way to be described. And a lot of people said, “What does that mean exactly?” and he said, ” I am the guy that gets the call when people are truly at the end of their rope. They are either at the point where if they don’t change something quickly their condition may kill them or they are so distraught or let down that they are almost of the verge of suicide.” And he said hypnotherapy is very rarely the first thing people think of but they eventually get to the point if nothing else is working, they think to themselves, “I might as well give this a try.”
He was an expert at helping people ‘turn things on a dime’, make fine new distinctions. And for a while was a member of our mastermind group, and I became quite a pest, I suspect it is that way he would describe me. I hired him, I went through therapy sessions, I wanted to take him out to lunch and I had an insatiable curiosity, which he found fascinating for a little while and then annoying. But put me on the path that I have been on for about 15 years and it is without a doubt one of the most powerful tools you can have in your communication, persuasion arsenal.
And the study of it is probably one of the most positive additions that you will ever find anywhere.
Well I hope that answers your question Billy, thanks a lot for asking it. We will talk to you again soon
